Anthrofiction Writing Contest, Summer 2006
I should have started a new topic when the spring contest ended and the summer began. The anouncement is in that other thread, buried somewhere. It's more convenient to read the basic anouncement when it's at the top of the page.
And now... Reminder
The Anthrofiction Network's Short Story Contest for Summer 2006 is underway and there are about 28 1/2 days left to finish writing and enter your story. The contest theme is My Sister.
I finally have my sample story posted. It's a sequel to last fall's contest entry Family Matters. The new story is Family Christmas. Okay, it may be odd to have a story set at Christmas time for a summer contest, but the timing of the story has everything to do with the vulpine reproductive cycle and almost nothing to do with religious holidays. As an illustration of the use of the contest theme, the sample story is saturated from front to back with "my sisterness".
So, how's it coming? Have you got a first draft yet?
Scotty

Only 7 1/2 days left!
There are only a bit more than 7 1/2 days left to read, score, and comment on the stories in this contest. The sample story is not eligible to compete, but the other authors who have entered need your feedback and your scores. So come on by the website, download the stories and start reading.
Anthrofiction Network is not about hosting stories on the Internet, that's the job Anthrofiction Stories Web Site (this website) and others like it. Anthrofiction Network is about helping writers of anthrofiction improve, and to have some fun at the same time. The fall 2006 contest will kick off on September 11th and I hope to see at least a few of you entering that contest.
Meanwhile, and to build up a store of good karma, come by the website and score the stories. Besides, I have a real prize for the winner this time... gold ore from Poverty Gulch in the Cripple Creek and Victor mining district. And this isn't just some nondescript looking rock from a tailings pile, it happens to be encrusted with tiny flecks of sylvanite (but I did get it from a tailings pile).
My rock was kinda big (about the size of an outstretched hand and almost 2 inches thick). Here are some photos:

Friday I took it to a guy who slices rocks and we cut it up into trophy sized pieces. The cuts revealed that the rock is built like a sponge and most internal pores are stuffed with sylvanite.
Anyway, the prize for the fall contest will feature gold ore and the prize for the winter contest will feature gold ore. Did I mention there is no fee to enter?

PS: Although the sample story is not eligible to compete, I would like your comments. But don’t neglect the other stories.
PPS: Why rocks? Well, because I'm a badger so it was either a rock or a dead gopher. I figured you'd appreciate a rock more. Actually, the real reason is because they say that to want to be a writer, you've got to have rocks in our head. I figure if you're good enough to win a contest, then you've probably got really good rocks rattling around up there. And really good rocks in the head deserves a really good rock as a prize.
Time to Judge the Entries
The entry period is closed and the judging period is upon us for the Anthrofiction Network's Short Story Contest for Summer 2006. Check out the great stories and fill in the ballots. Anyone may read and score the stories.
Thanks!
