User Classifications

There are several different user classifications in use. They provide varying levels of access and functionality that are dependent on the level assigned. Here is a list of those classifications and the related information:

anonymous user - This type of user can read stories on the site but is pretty much limited to that. No comments can be submitted, anonymous or otherwise and not posting of blog entries, stories or book pages can be done. Registration is required for any additional feature access.

authenticated user - This type of user has registered on the site and has been sent a confirmation email message with a temporary password. This user type can post comments, but they are moderated (not visible until approved). This user type cannot post blog entries, stories or book pages.

Reader - Once someone is authenticated and has posted enough comments for me to determine that they are a real person and not a spammer then their status is changed to that of Reader. As an alternative an authenticated user can send me a message or email requesting an upgrade to Reader status and I will do so, since this is something that is typically beyond your average automatic spamming system. A Reader can post unmoderated comments and blog entries. They cannot post stories or book pages.

Author - In order to post stories or book pages a Reader must sent me a request for an upgrade to Author status. Once upgraded they can post stories and book pages. Authors still must request that a new book be created if they want one available, but otherwise they have pretty much unfettered access to posting stories and revising their works.
