Wolves DelightA young female wolf on the search for family, life, and love. Dose she find it? Lets hope so :) The young female wolf gazed out into the planes of this territory. She did not know who ran this territory and had not yet scented them out. She continued forward, hoping to be welcomed here instead of shunned by them like all the other packs she had come into contact with had. She was a average size wolf, her coat thin with the up-and-coming spring in the northern air. Her markings like no other had ever seen, black stripes cut their way down her back, a single stripe under each glacial blue eye. White fur under those stripes gleam brightly in the rising sun. Before she got any further she let out a howl. Long and pleading. Letting the echoes reach any who would listen she waited a moment. Last time these howls were responded with anger, the wounds on her legs and face were barely healed by now. She sat back on her haunches awaiting rejection. The law of all wolves were to signal your arrival upon entering another?s territory before continuing on, if your accepted you were free to roam the territory until you were either accepted as one of the pack or run out. She feared refusal with pain in her heart. The howl came, her heart stopped as she felt the joy of acceptance. She took off full speed through the planes into the forest. After a while she slowed to a soft trot as she could scent them now. More males than females, no wonder they accepted her. To many males meant problems, and vise versa. A balance is what they needed. She knew she was close and let a small howl escape her gut. Letting them know she was waiting, she could barely stay still with anticipation. Her long fluffy tail swayed back and forth as she eyed the forest around her. Then she saw them, one by one they exited the shadows and stood before her, strong but confused. ?Greetings, my name is Ayla.? She lowered her head in respect to them and the apparent Alpha, in which he nodded in kind. ?Greetings to you too Ayla, I am Durak we are glad that you have come. Though I am curious as to your reason for being here. Also your coat confuses me are you sure that you are wolf?.? She nodded in understanding. ?I cannot explain my coat sir. I was abandoned as a pup, barley old enough to fend for myself. I have been in search for a clan that would accept me for a long time now. Non will take me. I ask for a home. That is all.? She bowed her head again as the Alpha male who seemed to be very old in age converse with a few others. She couldn?t tell what they were speaking of for they spoke to low. A pair of twin pups, about the same age as she was upon abandonment trotted up to inspect her. ?I think your pretty Miss Ayla.? The young male chirped and licked her face and nipped at her. Ayla laughed and nipped back playfully sending the twins off laughing. ?Ayla.? She bowed her head paying attention. ?You have not had a pack as of yet am I right?? She shook her head. ?I wish to apologize to you for our neighbors prejudice. You are welcome here for a trial period. When that expires we will test your ability to hunt, and show you have a part to play with in our ranks. Until then you are just a guest. Respect that and you will prosper.? Durak ended and turned walking away. The others began to follow but she caught the eye of a male who?s fur was as white as hers but with a golden ring around his neck, giving him a look of royalty. Eyes green as the grass and the tip of his tail with a speck of black. He looked strong and possibly one of the higher ranked hunters. She wagged her tail but did not pursue, she would not test the limits of this pack. She did not want to ruin what she had just gained. As they walked the twins from before sidled her. ?Miss Ayla. I?m glad Durak has let you join us, even if it is just for a while. I hope you pass the tests.? She smiled and looked on as they all trotted along. ?Yes. I hope so to.? The alpha male heard what was going on but ignored it. They all just trotted on to their home grounds. When they got there they resumed daily life. The morning hunt had already taken place and the females had stayed back to tend to younger pups. Out of the ten adults only four were females. She sat on the edge of the woods out of the clearing and watched on. She watched the pups play and smiled happily. She loved pups and had never had the chance to birth a litter of her own. She was never around long enough to go into heat. Then she lowered her body to the females that approached her. They were curious about her and showed it by sniffing her all around. She rolled onto her back showing her submission to them and they let her up faster than she expected. ?No need to be so submissive here. We are glad that you have come. To many males makes us welcome a new female.? She nodded understanding what they mean. ?This is a beautiful pack, I am honored to be accepted so easily.? The older female scoffed. ?Those younger males just hope that you will produce a more healthy litter than we do. We haven?t had a female born in our pack in a very long time, they?ve all been males. We?ve had to run our own pups out of our territory at adulthood to keep from being over run by males, each day praying a female would happen to wonder into our territory.? The larger grey female smirked and walked away motioning her to follow. The females sat with the pups as they went back to nursing or play. Ayla found herself a unused spot, pressed the grass down and sat down getting comfortable for the time being. She watched them go about their lives, occasionally she would indulge a young pup as its tiny curious form would stumble upon her presence. She watched it flop onto her paw, she didn?t move, but watched it realize what it had down and cower before her. ?Shhh, its alright young pup. I wont hurt you.? The gray eyes of the little one got wide as it jumped around a little, chased its tail, chewed on her arm and then scampered off. ?Your good with them. Very good. Have you had a litter before?? Seela spoke to her. Ayla had not realized she was there till just then and noticed her pattern, eyes dark blue and fur mostly black with a golden fringe around her neck. ?Oh..no I haven?t. I wish to someday though.? Seela saw the yearning in the younger females eyes. ?Do not worry, you are a very beautiful wolf, I don?t see how any male would resist you.? She laughed and sat next to her. ?So I guess you would like to know who we are hmm?? Ayla nodded as she looked out at the pack. ?Of course the pups do not have names just yet, not until they have found it. Our alpha is Durak with is black coat speckled with gold. His two sons are Dalster, the white with the gold, Dalik is the Dark Gray and gold over there.? She motioned to the three talking together. So that?s who that young male is? Ayla pondered. Pratha is the softer black one with the white paws. The other two are Bratal and Kelash two males from the neighboring pack to the south. They are brothers. Both are normal grays but their eyes are yellow. Our bloodline depicts black and dark blue eyes. The females, I am Seela, Sister to Dalster and Dalik. That is Tosha, gray fur with a smidge of black on her paws. Klysa, black with dark eyes, the oldest and wisest. Mala the youngest female. Fur dark gray with a flecks all over.? She took a deep breath and laughed. ?Its amazing isn?t it. Such a diverse pack, most packs have one set pattern with few differences through out, but ours apparently is an exception to the rule. We are right in the middle of most of the major packs, so we have a little bit of all of them in us. Durak is the third generation of the first of our breed to settle here. He fears to much mating with in the same blood line weakens it. More diversity means the potential gain of a stronger future pack.? She lay down next to the new female and sighed. ?I think I?ve talked your ear off long enough. Tell me a bit about yourself.? Ayla sighed and did the same. ?Well there isn?t much, abandonment, survival, repeated refusal to join packs. Its this stupid coat, I think its why I was abandoned.? |
