Child of the Banes

Young Lord Vargen Rhozhulthea is the youngest of ten brothers and two sisters. His father who is Leader of Bane Army-Ice is now busy helping his other kids get ready to meet their new mates has left Vargen on his own. Vargen just wants something to do but when he is given the task of caring for a Hunters child he is have a hardtime trying to get his family to just like her.

Part 1

The large bay stallion snorted as his rider pulled on the reins; he pawed the ground with one large hoof nervously for they now stood in front of a large stone castle. The grey anthro-wolf pulled off his hood and letting it fall back, he looked over the castle. His home was badly in need of repairs, the roof had large holes and the east side of the stables and part of the castle wall were gone.

Lord Rhozhulthea yellow eyes scanned the yard looking for any sign of hunters around or their pets, his family and the others who were under his protection waited behind him at the gates. His mate was pregnant with his cubs and he didn't what anything around that would mean danger to her or his cubs.

Not seeing anything or anyone he dropped the reins to turn and wave the yard was clean and it was safe. Just as he dropped the reins his bay stallion bolted for the gate, he nearly toppled off. Grabbing a hold of the long black mane, he pulled back so hard that the stallion was thrown onto his hunches. He pawed the air wildly with his front hooves as he fought to stay on his hind legs.

The stallion let out a loud scream before falling over onto his back with his rider; they hit the ground with a loud heavy thud.

Lady Rhozhulthea cried out when she saw her mate's horse fall on top of him, she turned to her two guards who were standing beside the carriage. The male leopards just stood watching the whole scene, which had just happened before them. Annoyed she yelled at them "Go over and check on Him! That's an order!" the leopards hastily said "Yes my Lady!" and dropping the things they were carrying and rushed over. She lowered herself back into her seat, then one of the pups inside sent out a small kick.

Lady Rhozhulthea gasped loudly at that moment; her two handmaids who were sitting next to her looked at her. The oldest, a tri-color she-cat moved over to her side worried "Are you in need of help My Ladyship?" she asked. Lady Rhozhulthea just nodded her head but didn't answer the cat. Her mind was swirling with thoughts "Dear Gods please don't let the cuds come now, please." The younger grey and white she-cat was looking at her with worried filled eyes.

The two male leopards reach the falling horse and rider, they heard a groaning sound come from under the bay stallion. The stallion hearing them being to whinny shrilling and tried getting back onto his legs. one of the leopards moved to hold on his head, the other started pulling Rhozhulthea out from under the stallion. He was out when his two sons came galloping over to them.

Gbewonyo was the eldest cub of Lord and Lady Rhozhulthea, his brother Vargen was the youngest son at the age of 21 years. They reined in their horses, Vargen's black stallion Manbon didn't stop when asked but did stop to nose Vargen's sire on the face with his muzzle. Gbewonyo growled at the horse, Vargen backed up the horse before jumping off. A young red-copper fox came out from nowhere to grasp a hold of the stallion's reins.

He watched as a crowd being to surround his brother and father, Gbewonyo growled at two small puma cubs that came too close. Their father pulled them away from Gbewonyo and Lord Rhozhulthea who was trying to sit up. He gently pushed his father back down, "Stay down father you need help. Someone get the healer quickly!" he yelled at the faces, which were around them.

The faces suddenly disappeared as they ran off to follow Gbewonyo's order, Vargen was still watching him and annoyed by it he yelled to him "Don't stand there like an idiot get over here and help me!" Vargen didn't waste any time and leaped over to his brother's side. Vargen using his knee helped his confused father sit upright while Gbewonyo untied his golden metal breastplate. Looking uneasy about that Vargen looked at him and in a nervous voice "Are you sure about doing that? You know father hates it when?" Gbewonyo cut him off with a sharp growl "Shut up Father's wound could have opened up and that?" he stopped when a black paw shot out garbing a hold of him and a deep drowsily voice said "Take your hand off me Gbewonyo. That's an order!" Vargen grinned when he saw the stern look his sire was given his older brother.

Gbewonyo glared back at him, "You're hurt father I'm just checking on your wound! And stop bossing me around when I'm trying to help you!" he said as he placed his paw under his breastplate and pressed it against his chest. Rhozhulthea growled at his son, Gbewonyo was the oldest pup out of his ten sons and he was getting hard to handle at times. While his son was checking on him, a lean rusty red wolf came running over to them.

Karfang was the Rhozhulthea family healer; he worked for the Bane Armies before as the seventh healer but he now was Rhozhulthea's healer after he was asked if he was interested in working for him. He agreed and with his young son Vorfang, he joined Rhozhulthea's family. Vargen nudged his father's back gently; the black wolf turned his head and saw him.

Rhozhulthea watched with amusement when he saw Karfang's young son Vorfang trailing along behind him, his weird, unusually and quirk gait was very much noticed by anyone who watched him walk or run. His right leg when walking or run always wanted to give up on him so he moved it as quickly as he can to make sue he didn't fall on his face. When he was just five months old an band of hunters attacked his father's home, Karfang tripped and fell on the pup damaging the right leg and with help from other mages it healed up but not the right way.

Vargen watched with great interest as the lean red wolf pushed his brother away to look at his wound, "Watch it! Vorfang stay away and don't touch anything," snapped Gbewonyo. A low growl from Karfang stopped him from saying anymore. Vargen felt a soft muzzle push against his back, Manbon his black stallion was nosing his belt look for any lumps of sugar he usually had.

The Attacker

Lord Rhozhulthea watched as the workers ran around setting up the red tents, his wound had not been injured and he was walking around given out orders. He was a bit worried about his mate after what her maid told him. He watched as the workers who had finished their jobs walk over to get their food, Finn was placed aside from them because he was the family pet.

"Vargen tell that fox to get the beast out of here," Gbewonyo said acidly as he gnarled at the young fox who was pulling at the end of his red cape. "Lay off Finn." He said standing up for the fox. Finn was captured in the mountains close to Hallsville. He remembered when he and his family rode into the town; Gbewonyo's Soul-bond was in need of a new sword after he broke it when fighting a large stone bear.

Gbewonyo looked at his younger brother; he pulled out a bag of coins. "Here's some money, don't buy anything which you can't use going home," he said nervously before handing the bag over. Vargen nodded his head and gently nudged his stallion's sides getting him moving. They rode slowly in and out of the large crowds of town people; a booming voice garbed his sharp black ears. Riding over to a large clearing he noticed that this was a slave market and by the looks of the other animalizes around the place that they'll be bring the goods out soon.

He stopped at a large tree and jumped down off the horse; he tied up the stallion to a low branch but didn't go anywhere. His yellow eyes looked over the clearing, he saw the owner of the loud booming voice, a large white and black tiger male. A group of riders coming over a hillside on small but hardy mountain breed ponies caught his eyes. Rangers from the mountains he thought as the riders rode over to him. Manbon snorted and tossed his large black fine head up and down at the ranger's ponies, a male snow leopard, two mountain lions and a dark stone grey wolf dismounted. Vargen got a very uneasy feeling as the grey male wolf walked over to him.

"Well hello there soldier boy," he said with a sly grin on his face, Vargen nodded his head and turned his attendance to the heavy betting. A large heavy build liger male stood up on top of a platform where everyone could see him and the other slaves. Many of them were probably half-breeds or captured animalizes from other kingdoms. The grey wolf's voice broke his thoughts "So you're looking for a worker? Mountain Slaves are the best ones around," he said moving over to him but stopped when Manbon snorted and tried to snap at him. "There's a good selection this year." he said looking at the large crowd.

Vargen decided then that this ranger was probably going to try to hit on him, in Animatopia many males spent a lot of time away from their mates and families in army camps so they turned to each other. It starts out as normal friendships, which grow stronger over time, and after sometime, they sometimes end up becoming Soul-bonds. Which means sex.

"Really now?" he said hoping he would start talking about something else and loses interest in him, "They sure are soldier boy, and a lot of people come here to buy liger workers. They choose males over the females every time they're the strongest." he said with a hint of pride in his voice, the grin had turned into a smile. Vargen watched as a lean but strong build male wolf being leaded up the platform. The wolf looked different then other wolves; his fur was a red rusty color with faint red bloodstains in it and looked weather worn. His face was hard and a large scar on his face showed that he had lived a hard life in the wild. The gray's feline friend had walked over and started betting on the wolf, he notched that the leopard owned a similar one a brother maybe.

The grey was watched them but he turned to look at him with his steel grey eyes, "So your stay around here? Not the best thing if you are here by yourself," he asked trying to get Vargen attendance again. Vargen answered in a cool voice "No I'm here with my father and older brother and family." and turned away. The grey grunted "You have a mate?" he asked sounding a bit flat, Vargen shook his head "No not married just with my family and if you don't mind something caught my eyes," he said and walked over to the crowds. A young red fox was dragged onto the platform with the large male wolf; his eyes were filled with fear. The wolf looked down at him and bared his long white teeth.

Vargen watched as one of the handlers pulled the wolf back; the tiger picked the fox up and placed him on his feet. "Now who's interested in this young fox? Well start at 70 paw," he said in his booming voice. People being to yell out their bets, Vargen nodded his head at the tiger. He nodded back and continued yelling, "90 paws? 95 paws? 80 paws?" when he looked at Vargen. Vargen nodded his head, he heard the sum and it was over the fox belong to him now. Paying the tiger, he led the fox down off the platform. "Good buy Soldier, he'll be a good one." the tiger said watching the fox stare at him with yellow eyes.

They walking over to Manbon "Fox you belong to me now," he said looking at him with a kind face. The fox was around ten years old a bit on the skinny side but nothing which good food can handle. "You're going to work for me understand? Your job is to care for the horse my horse," he said as the fox looked at Manbon and nodded his pointed face. "Good. You have a name?" he asked the fox that shook his head, "He's a mute soldier boy. The town people call him Runt," said the grey wolf as he walked up Vargen, his fox ducked behind him scared by him.

"Why? He's not a runt," asked Vargen now getting angry that the wolf didn't leave him alone.

"Don't know they just do, his sire was a wild one and he just inherited the quiet side of him. Got shot by the rangers up at Jain River over the winter, stealing food from the villagers and attacking them," he said recalling the time before looking at the fox with calm eyes. "He came down from somewhere and hung around pawing at people for food until Chuas caught him for sale." he said still starting at him, the fox poked his head out from behind him and stared back with wonder filled eyes.

Vargen looked down at him and made his mind up, fox was staying and he was going to find his brother before anything happened. "Well nice meeting you but I got to go," he said and mounted his horse before the grey could say something. Manbon sniffed the fox's head and snorted Vargen knew that his horse like him if he didn't the fox would have lost some fur. The crowds had lessened quite a bit because the sun was going down.

"Hey! Hold up," a voice called from behind him, he growled when the grey rode up beside him. "What?" he said adding a growl to his voice.

"Nothing just wanting to know why you're in a rush," he replied in a cool voice but he could tell the grey was trying to get him to speak.

"I'm not in rush, just need to find my family," he said angrily "and leave me alone." Manbon quickened his pace, which made the fox have to run a bit. Stupid wolf can know when to stop he thought angrily and pulled on the reins letting the fox get a breather or two before walking again. "Wonder what I should call you?" he said wondering "Nothing stupid or Gbewonyo won't given me a moment's peace." he was still thinking when a hand garb a hold of Manbon's reins and pulled them to the side of the road and into a clearing surrounded by the bushes and trees.

Taking back Vargen didn't know what to do but he recovered when he saw who it was "What the hell do you what?" he trying to sound furious but it sounded more fearful. "Not much soldier just hurt that's all, why don't you like me?" the grey said between clenched teeth. His face was clouded with anger and hurt.

"I don't what you," Vargen answered but was cut off by the gray's harsh voice "Why? I want to know why," Vargen was now getting very scare this was his first time confronting a male. "Because I don't want you now let go of me!" he yelled and tried to pull away but the grey pulled the reins hard, his mountain pony struck Manbon's hind legs making him buckle and fall onto the ground.

Vargen was terrified his yellow eyes looked around fearfully, a hand garb his arm and turned him onto his back. "Tell me WHY! Now!" he growled salvage as Vargen struggled under him, "Let go of Me! Gbewonyo HELP!" he screamed as he kicked out. The grey covered his mouth with his hand and begun to drag him over to the bushes, Vargen bit down hard he could taste the salty, metal blood in his mouth. The grey swore but didn't loose his grip, GBEWONYO! HELP ME PLEASE! He screamed inside his mind.

The grey had dragged him into the bushes; behind them was a very small clearing big enough for two people, Vargen kicked out when the grey loosed his tight grip. He heard the grey snarl at him and garbed him by the shoulders, his hands begun to rip and tear at his clothes and amour. Vargen screamed as loudly as he could hoping that someone would hear him, then a loud roaring sound answered his screaming. The grey looked up and was knocked off Vargen who saw a glimpse of a grey stallion. His Brother had come to his rescue!

Gbewonyo pulled his grey stallion, Tkaa out of the prickly bushes his eyes were flaming when he saw his younger brother laying with his clothes torn, if that didn't make him angrier it was the fear, pain, and scare eyes, which did it. His Soul-bond Larlack was holding his new sword at a grey male wolf's neck, "Vargen!" he yelled with concern for his little brother who was now sitting up and crying. Jumping down he pulled his red crimson cape off and warped his brother in it, "Are you ok? Vargen say something," Gbewonyo said his voice filled with fear Vargen pressed himself against his brother's chest and in a long, big sentence he told him what had happened.

Larlack growled and pressed his sword's edge deeper into the grey's neck making him whimper, "Beast you should die for that!" he said digging the sword more making the wolf bleed. "Larlack! Leave him be for now," Gbewonyo yelled to him as he stood up with his brother cradled in his arms. "Bring him into the clearing, we'll settle with him there." He turned and walked out of the bushes over to his father and mother plus some of the other soldiers.

Rhozhulthea gasped when Gbewonyo came out carrying his brother in his arms, rushing over he cried "Vargen?! Is he alright Gbewonyo?" his son nodded and placed him in his arms, "He's fine but some beast tried to force him. Larlack is bringing him out, poor brother," he said gently caressing Vargen's head. Vargen's eyes were shut tight as he didn't want to see anyone or anything, looking up Rhozhulthea saw the grey male being lead a sword point by Larlack out of the bushes, he growled angrily.

Woltarg was Vargen's and Gbewonyo's uncle, seeing the fear and pain in his young nephew sent him into a rage. The grey male was led into the clearing by Larlack and forced to sit on the ground under his sword, pushing by the others he made his way to them. "How dare you!" he yelled viciously at him "Get up you beast!" and pulled his sword out.

Lady Rhozhulthea gasped at the sight of the sword but her mate shook his head at her, going over to him she warped her arms around her son and turned to watch her mate's brother deal with that, that monster.

Woltarg pushed the grey down and kicked him, "Get up and fight," he growled and swung his sword at him. The grey dropped to avoid it and pulled his own sword out, his teeth were bared.

Woltarg swung at him again but was blocked by the grey's sword, their swords clanked as they hit and struck each other. The grey dropped to the ground again, Woltarg's sword barely missed his right ear. Picking up some dirt in his hand he threw it at Woltarg's eyes. Reeling he back up rubbing his eyes, hearing a loud gasp he ducked in time to miss a swing. They struck at each other hard, missing swings.

Woltarg jumped back as the grey jabbed at him, swing he missed the grey but the next one struck the grey on the side. Kicking him back he fell down onto the ground holding his injured side, blood came out of the cut and onto the dirt. He snorted at him, turning to head back one of the workers yelled a warning. Looking behind he saw the grey lunge at him with a long dagger.

He jumped back and missed the dagger but the grey swing it at him, Woltarg stumbled back his arm slashed open. The grey circled him with teeth bared, his eyes burning with hate. Woltarg growled back at him, the grey jumped again with teeth not dagger.

Using his free arm he hit the grey away from him, he rolled on the ground but didn't stay down. Woltarg missed one but tripped over the gray's sword, Gbewonyo cried out as the grey raised the dagger to bring it down on top of him.

A blur of red flew out of nowhere and struck head long into the gray's chest, it picked itself up off him. He saw that it was a young male fox, he back up as the grey slowly got up shake his head trying to clear it. The grey looked up to see him and growled dangerous, fox moved in front of Woltarg making a humming sound. "Get back fox pup!" he yelled but the fox ignored him and when the grey stood up he lunged at him.

Fox dug his small teeth into the gray's neck hair and refused to let go, the grey clawed, hit at him trying to shake him. Bad man, hurt good man he thought angrily as the grey hit his head with his claws making him bleed. Bad man as he bit down hard tasting the blood in his mouth. Bad Man die die die die!!! He let go as the grey whacked him off and onto the ground, he got back onto his feet and leaped at him clawing at his face, his teeth clomped down on his muzzle, a loud roar reached his ears.

Rhozhulthea watched surprised as the young fox contained his savage attack on the grey male wolf. Woltarg had tried to stop him but he couldn't now he was resting beside him. The fox came from behind his son's stallion, Gbewonyo watched too in disbelief at the fox's courage. "Rhozhulthea do something! That wolf will kill him!" his mate cried out very terrified as the fox bite and clawed the grey on the face. He went into action when the fox was tossed to the side from the grey.

The gray's face was badly chewed, blood dripped from the many cuts, bite wounds on his face. The fox got up again and turned to him his teeth bared, he leaped at him again but this time he pulled out a small dagger and plunged it into the fox's guts. A female's scream came up; the fox fell to the ground and curled up into a ball. The dagger wet with his blood he turned and met the black wolf's sword, slashed across the face he fell but not before flinging the dagger hitting the black in the chest. Looking up he saw a pair of metal shoed hooves coming at him, he let out a growl before darkness took him.

Rhozhulthea watched as Manbon crushed the gray's head under his hooves, looking over to the fox he saw his brother gently stroking the red blood stained fur. Fear and sadness rushed though him, the fox was brave but he was young too. Woltarg stroked the fox's face, the youngster had fought a good battle but now he was in the hands of the gods. Vargen came over to him; his eyes saw the fox batting the wolf and the end he had met.

They stared before getting up they turned to walk back to the others when a faint humming sound reached their ears. Looking back, they saw the fox's sides moving up and down, his humming sound came louder and stronger with each breath. Manbon whinny and reared up on his hind legs as if he was thanking the gods himself. Vargen picked fox up in his arms; his yellow eyes stared at him before closing and continuing his humming sound. He heard a faint voice calling to him, it sounded warm and fatherly "Care for him good soldier boy, my son, Finn," it said before fainting away. "Finn?" he wondered out loud but looking down he smiled and quieter he said the name before walking back over to the group. Soldier boy, Care for him good, kind master, soldier boy, soldier boy?
